It does understand the DISPLAY environment variable. You can always
just set this first and then run HotJava instead of passing a -display
argument to HotJava. Yes, -display should be supported but this can be
worked around for now. If you want the display to be repointed just for
HotJava and not for everything started from your shell then set the
env variable and spawn Java from a subshell -- that way you won't have to
unset or reset the DISPLAY env variable. For instance for csh,
unix % (setenv DISPLAY mydisplayhosthere:0; hotjava)
unix %
