Hi, everyone...
I'm in the process of putting together a multidisciplinary group of
undergrads here at the Universidad Regiomontana (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon,
(Old) Mexico) dedicated to the teaching and promotion of the Java language
here in Monterrey.
Since we feel that learning a language is by itself a complex and time
consuming task, it is even worse when combined with the learning of a
foreign language. Also we feel language shouldn't be an obstacle for
promising new programmers.
So we have embarked ourselves on a two-year proyect called JAVIER to create
and distribute a hispanic (Spanish Only) version of Java; including a
matching complier, environment and WWW Browser, identical to HotJava, called
SAN JAVIER compatible with the Java/HotJava implementation thru the use of
the same 'bytecode' encoding on the compiler.
Maybe because this isn't such a long period of time, but also because we
want some external feedback we're seeking the help of all the
spanish-speaking or spanish-fluent audience inside this mailing list.
Our goal is to have an independent dialect (not just a meaningless
translation) in time for the 2Q of 1996, hoping to learn from all the trials
of the Alpha and Beta releases of the Java Environment. =20
Since we hope to be implement a 'fully bytecode compatible' compiler, we're
counting on a support arrangement with Sun Microsystems (which is a known
supporter of the UR and its distance learning proyects), althought no talks
have been started at this point.
If you're intrested in participating on the JAVIER or SAN JAVIER proyects,
please send me mail at:
cosuna@raza.giga.com
or at:
cc@xmission.com
with a brief description of your experience, the areas you would like to
colaborate and any suggestions, comments or problems you feel ought to be
review in this venture.
Feel free to send all mail in English, Spanish or both...
Muchas Gracias por su participaci=F3n...

If you're curious, JAVIER stands for
_JA_va--_V_ersi=F3n _I_nternacional en _E_spa=F1ol (_R_)egistrado.
SAN JAVIER (the HotJava compatible WWW browser) is:
_S_istema _A_vanzado de _N_avegaci=F3n en lenguaje JAVIER.=20
Soon we'll publish our own JAVIER development Home Page at:

with local mirror at:

Thanks anyway...
