As the original perpetrator of this notion, I would like to summarize
the pros and cons as I see them.
PRO
* JavaOS could be a *really good* OS. It could be very portable and
very small.
* Like HotJava, JavaOS would demonstrate the power of Java as well
as disciplining and guiding it, as Unix did C.
* Great Java development environment.
* General coolness.
CON
* Java is unsuited for the job. [I personally disagree with this one.
You should not be doing a lot of bit-twiddling and memory-munging,
even in an OS.]
* It diverts resources from other, more Java-beneficial projects [This
strikes me as a very serious criticism, and I leave it to others to
make the call].
