class File: no "delete" method ?

I'm writing some code where I'm manipulating files. I found, to my
surprise, there doesn't seem to be a way to delete a file with the existing
classes in Java (alpha2 on NT). I can rename a file, write on files, etc,
but no remove or delete (that I've found).

Am I missing something, or is this an oversight, or is this deliberate (and
if so, why) ?

Thanks.
