Re: John: Independence day

On Independence Day, we see a fireworks show and stay up
late. On July 3rd and 5th, there is little evidence of the
proximity to July 4th, other than the numbers on our calendars.
Christmas, however, starts the day after Thanksgiving (when we are
all busy giving thanks that Christmas doesn't start earlier) and
goes on until about New Year's Eve. December 25th is definitely
*not* an appropriate name for "Christmas." Maybe we should
rename it "December." What do you think?
On a related note, I had fun explaining to some immigrants
(during the fireworks on July 4th) why all these people were
standing around and staring into the sky.

"But today is the Fourth of July!"

"No s*** Sherlock, I've got a calendar, too! So why do we get the
day off?"
