In a surprise press release, negotiators for God and Satan have
revealed that they are nearing a settlement. What originally began as
a secret bargain to swap the souls of corrupt popes for the those of
Galileo and Voltaire has developed into wide-ranging negotiations.
According to sources, Satan is willing to renounce some of the more
egregious violent crimes in exchange for premarital sex, and certain
forms of theft by deception. Though both sides claim to be optimistic,
the talks have hit some rough areas, particularly pertaining to the
ownership of the Religious Right.

rjbarbal (Richard J. Barbalace):

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is G-D: it is he that hath made us, and not
we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with
praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth
 endureth to all generations.

yandros (Chad Phillip Brown):

It isn't yet official, but it's Pretty Darned Certain.

I'm not going to be taking classes at MIT this Fall. Probably not
  in the Spring, either.

``What's the story?'', you ask? I am going to have taken a
Voluntary Withdrawal near the end of last term, right before Drop
Date. This isn't a surprise, really - I needed to do this for
financial reasons, and there were some personal reasons that helped,
too. You probably already knew this.

Something that you might not have already known is that a voluntary
Withdrawal lasts for a minimum of one full year, except in extreme
circumstances. One reason that you might not have known this is
that it doesn't appear anywhere in the information on `Voluntary
Withdrawals' put out by the Office Of Relevant Deans. There are
probably other reasons that you might not have known this, though,
  including ``I never cared.''.

Caring notwithstanding, it is true, and it does seem to be applying
  to me.

Needless to say, I am somewhat unhappy about the situation.
`Somewhat' only, because for a while there was talk about NOT giving
me the Voluntary Withdrawal, which would have put me in a situation
  where I would:

o have been considered to have taken classes last term.
o have been considered to have taken classes all of last term
o have been considered to have taken classes all of last term, in
spite of the fact that I stopped attending classes when I
(thought that I) went on Leave.
    o have four (4) `F's (actually, three (3) `F's and one (1)
      blank-that-must-turn-into-an-`F'-if-I-mean-when-they-figure-it-out)
for the classes that I stopped attending five (5) weeks from the
      end of the term.
o have one (1) Required Withdrawal (RW) for the Spring Term of
nineteen ninety-four (1994), as a result of said grades.

    and, let's not forget:

o incur a bill of roughly tweleve thousand (12,000) dollars for
said RW from said grades from said classes.

So, I hope you can see how I might prefer the current probability.

Yes, I said `probability', not `situation'. This is still being
made up as I live it, and I still get to visit the office of The
Office of Relevant Deans about three (3) times a week. I don't
mind, though - I'm having this lovely ongoing conversation with this
woman who sometimes works as the receptionist of said office about
our respective illnesses. She got over hers several meetings ago,
but aside from that and sickly jokes about the standard questions
(`Name?' and `Year of graduation?'), we're a bit strained for
conversation topics, if you understand my meaning.

Aside from that, though, things are going fine. I've been ill,
yeah, and illness and nerves and distractions have totalled my sleep
schedule to the point where I almost never even see my roommates,
and I've barely exchanged words with some of the most important
people in my life right now, and I'm making no real progress on most
of my projects (computer and non), and I'm just started in a certain
test of willpower and already I'm wavering and I'm writing my .plan
file at 07:00am again, but mostly things are fine.

Oh, and I don't really know what I'm going to do with my life right
  now.

..but you probably knew that already, didn't you? :-)
