Sam: I can't remember why we're here. But I should
never shop for food when I'm hungry or conscious.

Max: I'm enjoying the amusement park quality of the
      lunchmeat section!

Ok, so I'm watching McNeil Lehrer last night...la dee dah ho hum...
Pretty ordinary until...the end of the show, what do they have? Some
person has written a friggin' POEM about "California Weather" and the
poor slackers think that's an appropriate way to eat up 10 minutes
of airtime. As if there was something that we're all supposed to think
when we hear "California Weather." "OoOh, 'California Weather,' that's
the bad stuff, isn't it?"

Look, I lived in California for seven years, both in the south and the
north. "California" and "Weather" do not go together. Period.
If you must, here's coastal California weather for the next 10,000 years:

South (San Diego):
Sunny, except when it's really hot, but it'll be sunny then too.
At night it will get dark. Prepare to use your headlights.

Mid-North (San Francisco):
Sunny, temperatures in the 60s. Sometimes there will be a little
fog. Sometimes it will drizzle. Tops no higher than 3000'.
Otherwise it'll be sunny with earthquakes. At night it gets dark.

Mid-South: (Los Angeles):
Sunny. Sometimes there will be bad fog, but it'll be real sunny.
It gets dark at night, except on the boulevards.

So it decides to RAIN in California for a little while. Finally I don't
have to listen to my mom whine about putting bricks in her toilet any
more. But I do have to listen to whiny poems about RAIN as if it's some
supernatural deluge of epic emotional proportions that the rest of the
country just NEEDS to hear about. Hey, I'm CRYIN' A RIVER for 'ya!

Kill 'em with Kindness

Conservative philosopher Russell Kirk, reflecting on capital punishmentL
"Death...can be a friend, a mother, a lover... For all of us, in the
end, death is the ultimate mercy. I do not understand why we should
deny that mercy to slayers whose earthly existence is a grave."
