reuven (Reuven M. Lerner):
How to trash a Unix system in seven easy steps (as tested on 6/17 at
Hewlett-Packard in Waltham):
(1) Decide you want to change your shell to something not in /etc/shells.
(2) su root
(3) emacs -t /etc/passwd
(4) Realize that the -t option to Emacs opens a file *as* a terminal,
not *in* a terminal.
(5) Quit Emacs in a panic.
(6) ^D to exit the su shell.
(7) Sheepishly tell the system administrator that you knew the root
password, and explain what you've done.
Congratulations! You have now removed the root account, the only one
with enough permission to edit /etc/passwd back to its original state.
Everyone else in your group must now save their work so that you can
bring down the system, boot off of another disk, and put things back
the way they're supposed to be.
(bash works nicely, though...)

rlcarr (Richard L. Carreiro):
A cold Cambridge morning. I heard a warning borne in the air.
About a place of power where no one had an hour to spare.
Where the lives have withered, silent students shivered in the cold.
Now their dollars captured by the talons of MIT, oh no!
Don't give in
Don't give in
Do not give in.
Suffering in silence, they've all been betrayed.
They quizzed them and they screwed them, in a terrible way.
Praying for some sleep-time at the end of the day.
There is no compassion for those who stay.
Don't give in
Don't give in
Do not give in.
There must be someone who can set them free:
To put the fun back into MIT
To save them all from dreaded Dean Tewhey
To protect what is left of old EC.
Can't you see
Can't you see
Can't you see
Don't give in
Don't give in
Do not give in;
To FHP, no
To commons, no go
Fight tomorrow.
Step inside! Hello! We've an interesting show
Might enjoy it never know
Step inside! Step inside!
We've got thrills and hacks, Phys Plant better watch their backs.
Lock your bikes up to the racks
Come inside! Come inside!
Pay up! Pay up! Pay up!
Join the show!
In Somerville bars, poor grad students wish on stars
For some money and a car
Ha-ha-ha! Ha-ha-ha!
If you follow me there's a speciality
Many nerds for you to see
In SIPB, in SIPB,
Pay up! Pay up! Pay up!
Join the show!
Next upon the bill generating much ill will
Arthur Mattuck is evil
Make him chill! Make him chill!
And not content with that, with perl code behind our backs,
We re-create jik from scratch
Get into that! Get into that!
Pay up! Pay up! Pay up!
Join the show!
Welcome back my friends, to the Hell that never ends.
Can't believe you'd still attend.
Run away! Run away!
Beyond the Fishbowl glass sit some nerds flaming a class.
Be careful as you pass.
Move along! Move along!
Get away, the term's about to start.
Guaranteed to blow your head apart.
At the 'Tute, won't get your money's worth.
Biggest screw in Heaven, Hell, or Earth!
You gotta punt the Dome! Better get right home!
You gotta punt the Dome! It's a fire hose!
Oh, right before your eyes, a Lisp hacker makes AI's.
And he tools until he cries,
Then he dies, then he dies.
Get away, the term's about to start.
Guaranteed to blow your head apart!
You gotta punt the Dome! Better get right home!
You gotta punt the Dome! It's a fire hose!
Soon R/O will seem, in a daze or in a dream,
To be a quite surreal scene.
What's it mean? What's it mean?
A curse upon the man who did not create a ban
On ARA's wretched viand.
It's so bland! It's so bland!
Throw up! Throw up! Throw up!
Gotta go!
Right near the big slide rule, we've a sight just for a tool,
It's our very own Cray-2.
Keep it cool! Keep it cool!
We'd like it to be known if the horrors that were shown
Chilled you to the very bone.
To the bone, to the bone.
Quickly punt the Dome!
Quickly punt the Dome!
Quickly punt the Dome!
Punt the Dome!
