Mind you, the rat did NOT want to be rescued. It wanted to sit in a corner of my kitchen until my cat Elliot killed it. Mind you, Elliot did NOT want to kill it. Elliot had spent ALL NIGHT playing with that rat, and Elliot was bored with it. When Elliot brought the rat in, at 1 in the morning, he wanted to share it. Elliot is such a considerate cat. He brought the rat right in to see me. Then when I yelled he brought it back out to the kitchen, where he & the rat played tag. All night. I expected to find a body in the morning. I did not expect to find the rat sitting in Elliot's bowl of crunchies, dipping its nose into Elliot's milk. The rat didn't expect me, either. When it saw me, it retreated into the pile of newspapers waiting for recycling. I tried to explain things to Elliot: "The rat. The rat is in the NEWSPAPERS. Don't you think you should DO something about it?" He looked at me but didn't DO anything about it. So I started bundling up the newspapers, with a yardstick handy in case the rat got pissed off. Eventually, I dug deep enough to expose its ropy tail. We both jumped & squeaked, and the rat limped out of the pile. It limped around the kitchen in a big circle. Clearly it was not a well rat. But when I tried to shoo it out the door, it ran back into the pile of newspapers. So I bundled up the rest of them. The rat eventually got a clue & wobbled out, across the kitchen, & behind the stove. Then it climbed into the stove, where it still is. Unless Elliot got it out. Mind you, Elliot was IN the kitchen for all of this, watching in pointed disinterest. At this point, I am pro-rat. That damn cat deserves NOTHING. Maybe I'm misreading this situation. Maybe Elliot and the rat are FRIENDS. Maybe I have a new pet. Right. I'm going to have a fun time when I get home tonight, I can tell. --- cj@modernlvr.wpd.sgi.com C J Silverio/Brahms Gang/Berkeley CA 94720 at least my recycling got done --------------------------------------------------------------------------- edsp22 (22 Hssp): I plan to rule the world HEH HEH HEH --------------------------------------------------------------------------- eichin (Mark W.
