ambar (Jean Marie Diaz):
"Christmas time is here, by golly
Disapproval would be folly
Deck the house with hunks of holly
Fill the cup and don't say when.
Roast the turkeys, ducks, and chickens
Mix the punch, drrrag out the Dickens
Even though the prospect sickens
Brother, here we go again!"

STUDENT KILLS FELLOW STUDENT FOR TERMINAL! COMMUNITY SHOCKED!
Houston, Texas
by Calvin Hovrage
A Rice student, frustrated by his inability to secure a terminal to
"write up a lab report" and "collect some data", stabbed another
student repeatedly with a pen this morning, causing severe lacerations
and punctures. The victim was rushed to Houston Memorial Hospital
where he later died of blood loss.
Asked to explain his action, the assailant offered the following:
"This guy was sitting there playing some game or other, and refused to
give up his terminal, even after I explained to him I needed to get
work done and was desperate." He later admitted: "I probably wouldn't
have stabbed him if he wasn't chuckling as he played."
The ramifications of this brutal slaying remain to be seen, but
already administration officials have sworn serious consequences for
people caught playing games on the local network (called owlnet).
However, they have spoken out equally against doing violence to those
that violate this policy. Priscilla Huston, manager of Rice's
Computer Resource Center, was quoted as saying: "Users shouldn't feel
they have to take matters into their own hands... computing staff is
there to handle problems like this."
The names of the victim and assailant have not been released.

[First, I love the song (especially with the bass way up).
Second, after sleeping through my chance at getting good Celtics' tix
yesterday, this is about how I feel.]
Is there anybody out there?
Hello, is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, now,
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain
And get you on your feet again.
Relax, I need some information first.
Just the basic facts,
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain,
You will not understand, this is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
I have become comfortably numb.
Okay, just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more aaahhhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on, it's time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse.
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone,
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

DESCARTES'S COGITO
explained in words of one syllable
I think, and so I am. This was said by a man in France whose name I
can't call to mind. As a point from which to start, he sought that
which was free from doubt. Am I? I think I am. Do *you* think I am?
Do you see me? Or do you just think you see me? And how do I know what
it is that you think? I know what you say you think, yes. But for me
that is not proof. I must start from what I *know*. And what do I
know? Well, I know that I think. Good. And if I think, I must be.
Yes. Then let me start with this: I think, and so I am.
