The Palestine Liberation Front's leader, Abul Abbas, was interviewed
by the //Wall Street Journal// (Sept. 10) in his Baghdad office,
decorated with pictures of his "commandos setting off in speedboats to
attack Israel." Abbas said the Gulf crisis is "the battle for
Palestine.... When we support Iraq, we support our case as
Palestinians."
Asked about the murder of American Leon Klinghoffer (which his PLF
carried out during the hijacking of the //Achille Lauro//) and the May
30 attack on the beach near Tel-Aviv, Abbas was unrepentant. He said
he would not recognize Israel. Moreover, Abbas repeated the frequent
Arab theme of patience; "There is an Arabic saying that revenge takes
40 years," he said. "If not my son, then the son of my son will kill
you. Some day, we will have missiles that can reach New York."
