Dream of the Blue Turtle
I had a dream last night.
It gave me quite a fright.
I was walking along a beach,
With the ocean just out of reach,
When a turtle came up to me
And said that he needed me.
So I said to him,
"Do you always follow whims?"
And he said to me,
"I just want to be free."
I thought about that for a while
And then I gave him my smile.
He tried to wear it well,
But my smile soon fell.
I tried to think some more,
Yet soon my head became sore.
Wanting to say something true,
I said, "I am sorry you are blue."
And said he, staring at the ocean,
"What we need is a good love potion."
While I was wondering about that,
The blue turtle became a cat.
When I tried to pet him, to my dismay,
The turtle, as the cat, ran away.
I followed the turtle for several hours.
When I finally found him, he gave me flowers.
The blue turtle said to me, with a grin,
"It is your heart I hope to win."
Said I, sensing the dream's end,
"It is sad, but we can only be friends."
