i can sympathize, john.  my data line at home was out of service for
*THREE WEEKS* with horrible line noise (imagine the subway travelling
in your telephone ... now multiply by one hundred!)  once they had
fixed this, i had full service for *one* day before it went out again.
"central office problem; we'll have it fixed by 5pm *tomorrow*!"

Argh!
