Hello from the new Fellowship Chair,
As many of you know, the AX chapter of APO has a Fourth of
July gathering, called "Fulton's Follies," on the Boston Esplanade to
get a great view of the yearly fireworks. Any alum and any friend of
the chapter is invited to join our gathering; we tend to stake out a
rather large area that can accommodate far more people than we have in
the chapter. Chapter funds permitting, I would also like to have some
amount of communal food/drink/sunscreen available: please email me
suggestions of lower-cost foodstuff we might want to provide, or that
you want to donate--there's no way we can actually feed anyone for the
whole day if they only eat snacks (please bring your own sunscreen,
meals, and favorite snacks: I am thinking mainly of a decent amount
of watermelon around sunset-time and sunscreen for those who will
forget).
The "first strike" is the group of people who get up early
Saturday morning to literally stake out the site. The reason for an
early morning stakeout is a) so we can actually get a good, large spot,
and b) because it's fun to hang out all day. Please email me
(robocop2@mit.edu) or Jill (jrpelavn@mit.edu) if you want to be part
of the 7am squad; any and all help would be appreciated. This year I
believe that the cart does not need any repairing.
Also, just for curiosity's sake since no one in the active
chapter seems to know the story, we would love to hear about Fulton
and the reason his annual stakeout was considered unwise. Even
better, we'd love to hear from Fulton himself...
So, to summarize:
Who: you and any friends
What: Fulton's Follies
When: 4th of July, 7am through the fireworks!
Where: Boston Esplanade; we'll be somewhat near the Hatch Shell and
our area will be roped off with that cheap yellow syntho rope.
How: By foot, bicycle, or rollerblades; later in the day, by foot
is advisable. Parking will be very scarce and the number of
people on the Esplanade make wheeled mobility a big pain.
Why: Duh, for a good view of the fireworks and to have fun beforehand!!
Yours in LFS (Love those FireworkS!),
Brad Lichtenstein
(Still trying to find a way to bring the "ship" back to fellowship...)
