[Sorry this is so late. It was delayed because we need volunteer help
with tasks like converting and uploading hardcopy mailings to e-
mailings. See paragraph 3 on how you can help. LT]
PMD Summary for January and February, 1997
:-) Happy New Year! Begin 1997 off right with renewed commitment
to volunteer.
The following PMD community service projects have been made
possible by everyone who has supported the PMD annual appeal. Many,
many thanks! It is not too late to support our 1997 community service
projects raise enough funds for at least 14 projects
between now and June. When everyone gives what s/he can, we
collectively make a difference to the people and charitable groups we
strive to serve. Please see enclosed information on how you can help
us make a difference in 1997.
*PMD is run entirely by volunteers.* PMD needs volunteers to help
with mailings to volunteers and other organizational work every week
at 11 Concord Sq. #2 in the South End (near Mass. Ave. station on the
MBTA Orange line and Copley Sq. station on the Green line). Collating,
labeling, compiling data from project evaluations, etc. To help for
two hours on a weeknight, please call 617-437-8871. Please specify the
days and times that fit best into your schedule. We will call you back
to confirm. Thank you!
Help the NATIONAL BRAILLE PRESS on Thursday night, January 23, 6
to 8 PM, in Boston (only one block from Symphony Hall). 14 volunteers
are needed to collate, label, and mail catalogs of braille
publications that blind people can purchase for the same price
(subsidized by donations) as sighted people pay for ink-printed
materials. Please call 617-437-8871, ext. 2, to sign-up to participate
by 1/17.
Join us on Saturday, January 25, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM to paint
creative, upbeat Walk signs for PROJECT BREAD in South Boston. Project
Bread organizes the annual Walk for Hunger to raise awareness and
funds for several emergency feeding programs, a Hunger Hotline, and
other programs. The signs we create will be posted along the 20-mile
walk route. (Afterwards, everyone who participates is welcome to join
is a dim sum lunch in nearby Chinatown.) This project is suitable for
younger volunteers if they can paint neatly and are accompanied and
supervised by an adult/parent/guardian. Please call to sign-up to
participate by 1/17.
On Sunday, February 2, 10 AM to 12:30 PM, assemble educational
Valentines for CAMBRIDGE CARES ABOUT AIDS in Central Square,
Cambridge. Cambridge Cares About AIDS provides comprehensive client
services to people with HIV/AIDS and provides prevention education to
people who are at risk for HIV infection Please call 437-8871, ext. 2,
to sign-up to participate by 1/23.
Help HAWTHORNE YOUTH AND COMMUNITY CENTER TEENS explore the
Internet on Tuesday night, February 4, 6:15 PM to 8:15 PM, at an
introductory class taught by and at Virtually Wired in downtown
Boston. Support teens as they learn how to explore the Information Age
and new opportunities. A fun evening for all! Basic familiarity with
computers is a plus. Please call to sign-up to participate by 1/29.
PMD volunteers shape PMDs community service projects. We are in
the process of planning our March and April projects and welcome your
input. We seek projects that help charitable groups, involve at least
12 volunteers, and do NOT involve clerical or fundraising work. Please
call to discuss the group and work needed. Thank you.
I look forward to your participation in PMD community service
projects this year. Sign up now while there is still space for these
popular projects!
In making a difference,
Lori Tsuruda
Founder and Executive Director (and an unpaid volunteer just like you)
