Minutes of Exec Comm(October 29th, 1996)

Administrative  notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Start: 7:30 pm; End: 9:30 pm.  Present: Emily Ingrid, Oscar, Jeffrey,
Lauren, Carolyn, Hannah, Laura, Ari, Alexis, Michael, Sparky, Lizzie,
Charley
FC (Ingrid):  We had some Fellowship events.  We had Steak Fry.
       Thanks to all who participated.  There is a pledge interview
       study break on sunday.  SFF is getting toward happening.  We
       don't know where it is yet. Invitations will be done soon. I will
       try to coerce people into having more study breaks.  Friday is
       eat pizza and see Shakespeare.
Historian (Charley): I forgot to bring the camer to the project on
       Saturday.  The petition for the amendments of the bylaws has
       been signed by about half the chapter. It should only take about
       20 minutes to vote and discuss this. Phone calling and such will
       be happening to tell alums and associate members that legisla-
       tion changes are being made. I am out of film again. After the
       voiting on the Amendments, I will ask for volunteers for Archive
       Committee.
President (Emily):  This upcoming meeting is nominations and we
       may have to reaprove some standing policies.
ASC (Lizzie): Nothing to Report.
Sparky: At Conclave we may be considered for a Conclave the Spring
of 1998. Would the chapter be interested?
Ingrid:  John Grossi and Mike Rapetta mentioned doing it for this
       coming Spring but I told them that we couldn't consider it until
       after Carnival. Maybe during the fall after that.
Charley: Most of the people in the room will have graduated by then.
       I know where the info is about when we ran Nationals and Con-
       clave before, so if people are really interested, we could look at
       that. If we actually do this we should put people in charge who
       will actually be there then.
Ari: I was on a committe that planned a conclave. We can do it but
       probably not during Carnival.
SVP (Alexis): There may be a project this saturday. I can't reach the
       woman who is our contact. They have to give us a presentation
       and Thursday is the day most people can go. I don't have a PC
       yet.  the project is helping the Red Cross with flooding dam-
       age.  Chapter Weekend II is next weekend at Camp Grenough
       at Cape Cod.  Gina is the PC. Chapter Skills Weekend is the
       next weekend, the skills are silksreening, printing and treasury.
       There will be a signup sheet in the office. Recyclecomm went to
       a meeting with the people in charge of recycling and not much
       got done.
[Some discussion of how UMOC did not raise much on second day
possibly due to Steve Jens scaring people away from the UMOC booth.
General feeling was also that the candidates should campaign more.
Also it was suggested that the new ugly sculpture by Sloan should be
made a hack candidade and have someone campaign for it out by the
Sloan School.]
Ari:  Chapter skills doesn't apply just to pledges.  Pledge interview
       study break on sunday.  Memcomm met.  We needed some-
       thing so pledges could get interviews done. Maybe a few more
       projects. Pledge Officer meeting happened. Pledge meetings IV
       will be a 1 on 1 meeting with Ari. Plege projects are coming up.
       Roberts Rules of Order Comm has nothing to report.
APOcEd  (Hannah):  Write Articles.  Deadline on Friday, I want
       project reports.
PubDir (Carolyn): I am making the infinite cooridor board this week
       on Thursday.
Treasurer (John): (Not Present) Hi, everyone, I'm not going to be
       able to attend tonight's ExecComm, so here's my report.
   o As you know, last week was the ASA General Body meeting. Of
     the things discussed, the thing relevant to us is the new outside
     bank account policy.  Bottom line for right now is that we have
     until the beginning of the Spring Semester to go "legitimate"
     and register our bank accounts. I recommend that we wait until
     January to register. While the requirements we'd have to satisfy
     (giving the Dean's Office a copy of our account transactions each
     quarter) aren't that onerous, I'd like to wait a while to make sure
     that the new system works properly, especially given the previous
     student accounting problems.
   o I will be scheduling a FinComm meeting soon to talk about what
     to do with the endowment money we liberated from the Endow-
     ment.  In preparation, can I get a sense of what restrictions we
     have for that money? I assume whatever we do with it has to be
     generally guaranteed (i.e. mutual funds and high-risk bonds are
     right out). My father is a financial planner, so if I get some guide-
     lines for what the restrictions are I can ask him about possible
     options for this money.
Ari:  John is confused.  We took money out of the MIT account, not
       the Endowment.
Charley: What I remember the chapter thought about the money is
       not to put it in MIT but the other options are complicated.
UMOC (Jill): (Not Present) Umoc is going well. About $150 taken
in so far. Candidates need to campaign more. We need more people to
sign up for shifts and takedown. Please sign up by tomorrow at 2 PM
for a guarenteed seat at Two Gents and Pizza.  I may be able to get
you a seat after the deadline, maybe not.
AVP (Jeffrey): I am hosed.
Carnival Boy (Oscar): We have to bring forward the second mailing
and there will be a budget.  Hopefully this will appear on the board
before the meeting.  We may be doing a phone calling to all living
groups and activities. Carnival comm meeting Friday at 6. Currently
Gina is the head of the Malitia, and Melissa is Carnival Publicity, but I
am still looking for an assistant to the secretary and a special activities
coordinator.
