Sorry if this isn't the appropriate place for responses/discussion, but
we might want to consider doing something like MITOC does, which is to
hold a deposit (usually in the form of a check) for an amount sufficient
to pay for the item(s) being borrowed. When the borrower returns the
item, the check is returned to the borrower. If the borrower fails to
return the item, we would simply deposit the check.
