Minutes of Trinidad Comm (Sept 17, 1996)
Administrative notes:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Start: 6:35 pm; End: 7:00 pm. Present: Harry, Michael, Oscar, Ellen,
Jeffrey, Charley, Ari, Emily
Discussion:
~~~~~~~~~~
Michael: This is the first meeting. I see this committee as a body to
just discuss issues surrounding Trinidad in an informal way as
we decide what we are going to do.
Ellen: APO International is kind of weird. Nationals is working on
Canada. Nationals won't send materials out of the US directly,
but chapters can send materials anywhere they want. Trinidad
has been sent the full petitioning kit. The semester there starts
second week in October. I have our contact's new phone number
but not his new mailing address. There is only one university in
Trinidad. What's probably going to happen is the International
program will assign full membership to big countries and asso-
ciate membership to smaller countries. APO Phillipines is only
two years old, and APO International just acts as an advisory
board. The committee will have to decide what to do with a
country with only one chapter.
Cathy: What do they want us to do?
Ellen: The group doesn't exist as a whole yet. It looks like we may
not be able to do a whole lot until classes start.
Michael: Ok as I see it, in the near future, we should open a communi-
cation channel with Trinidad and ask them what help we could
provide. It would be good to talk to the group before bugging
Nationals for more materials.
Ari: We could ask the chapter for funding for things such as phone
calls.
Michael: That sounds reasonable. How about $50?
Charley: That sounds a bit low. I think $75 - $100 would be more
like it.
[AVP note: After much discussion and debating, it was decided an
initial $50 was appropriate and that the committee would ask more as
necessary. The committee passed a motion to ask the chapter for the
funds.]
