SVP (Alexis): We had some open projects and will be having more
projects soon. National Braille Press is on Sunday and So-
jouner House the following sunday. There should be a meeting
of servecomm and recycle comm soon. No place yet for Chapter
Weekend I.
MVP (Ari): [Moved to new business]
AVP (Jeffrey): My refrigerator still doesn't work. I have a new
mentor list form that should be updated. Also, I need people to
make corrections to the signup list and address list.
Treasurer (John): Pay your debts. The new ASA rules lets groups
have legal outside accounts. The books will be audited and then
closed for a few weeks. 60th made money on paper in the debt
list, but people should pay their 60th debts.
[AVP Note: Carolyn took the minutes for the treasurer report, for
which I had to leave the room. I resumed minutes below]
Richard: What is quarterly, in terms of closing the books?
Ellen: They need the balances four times a year.
John: Dues are $15.
FC (Ingrid): I was in a bad mood on Friday and I am sorry I yelled
at people. There is another BBQ at Ron's coming up. There is
a Red Line study break on Saturday.
APOcEd (Hannah): The apoc is out, the date is wrong on them.
There is a poetry contest. For the next issue, I would like people
to include bio's of themselves. Write articles.
ASC (Lan): Nothing to report.
PubDir (Oscar): First, thanks to Lizzie for doing stuff over the sum-
mer. Drop poster prices went up to 20 cents per foot.
Historian (Ingrid): I didn't get much done over the summer but I
will keep working on some of it over the term.
Advisory Comm. Chair (Joe): Nothing to Report
President (Emily): I have a list of people who are interested in being
on Trinidad comm. Ellen will be talking about Nationals later,
and she has a source of cheap tickets. We have a visitor from
Vanderbilt, where there isn't an apo chapter. Wellseley is stuck
in red tape, but will be working toward chartering.
Old Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
None
New Business:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Ellen gets up to present info about Nationals]
Ellen: First some other apo info: 1) Sectional Conference is at Uni-
versity of Maine, Farmington, Nov 1 - 3. Information is Forth-
coming. 2) New Jersey sectional conference is Oct 11. I may be
driving there and can take others with me. 3) April 11 - 13 is
Spring Conclave at University of New Hampshire. 4) national
Service Day is Nov 1. National office will send pins to those
chapters that do projects.
Ellen: National Convention is in Phoenix, AZ, Dec 27 - 30. It really
begins the afternoon of the 27th and ends the evening of the
30th, so you want to plan your travel plans around that. Hotel
rate is $50-$55 a night. Registration is about $30 - $40, in-
cluding workshops, banquets, and legislative sessions. 2 voting
delegates from each chapter. Business is divided into subcom-
mittees. ellen knows a source of cheap airline tickets and APO
Nationals gets money back from these sales. Get reservations
in soon. If you are close enough to drive and want to get in
touch with a local chapter contact Ellen. You can volunteer
time and energy to the Nationals staff. Sept 28 is the deadline
for submitting legislation.
Emily: Any other business?
Charley: I am almost done writing the How-to's of the chapter book.
There is an article in the apoc about the book. It contains both
info for apo and MIT in general. It is not complete, but is being
constantly updated. Tons still needs to be written. There will
be a draft copy on the coffee table; it should stay there. Send
mail to apo-chapter-book if you have submissions.
Committee reports:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[AVP note: we skipped this part earlier and Emily came back to it (sort
of in the middle of new business)]
Book Exchange Committee (Carolyn): We have bought and sold
books. How much did we make?
Lizzie: Over $16,000 went through our hands. We probably made over
$800, including some extra money from books that we sold from
the apo table.
New Business Part II:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emily: Ok its time for Junior Officer Elections.
[Junior Officer Elections occur]
Junior Officers are now Lizzie, ASC, Carolyn, PubDir, Charley, Histo-
rian
[AVP note: and here comes the MVP report, which the MVP so con-
veniently took all of the meeting to write.]
MVP (Ari): Rush. We had open projects. We had many prospec-
tives between the many projects and fellowship events. We had
2 open meetings, and an open silkscreen project. We had 160
prospectives at Activities Midway. I have a list of people who
are actually interested. About 8 pledges. We haven't been con-
tacting these people, and we should try to contact these people
via the phone or in person. We have the open project and open
fellowship event coming up. Pledge ceremonies on this Thurs-
day at 8:30 pm in 1-135. I want to divide the list I have among
brothers and have them call these people. Tell them about the
pledge ceremony, the red line study break at 2pm on Saturday,
the open project at 8:30 am on sunday. Are they interested in
pledging, do they have any questions. Tell them what joining
means: attend projects meet brothers and pledges, have some
leadership role, go to fellowship events, and go to chapter meet-
ings. Find out what time tuesday or wednesday next week they
can make it to the pledge ceremony. Pledging costs $18. Ques-
tions go to me, and call the office to leave me messages. Report
to me when you are done.
Ari: I am leaning toward allowing leadership to be a chapter skill.
[AVP: Here there was some discussion about first aid as a chapter skill,
but it was ultimately decided that first aid would probably be too long
and complicated for a chpater skill, besides the fact we don't have
anyone certified to teach it]
Ari: I am making leadership a chapter skill and it can be completed
by attending Yale's program. Sept 24 from 2-6 pm.
