Hi all,
Believe me, I've given this a lot of thought, much earlier than this
term even, although I have not recently voiced my intentions to run since the
beginning of last term. I am running for Service Vice President. As Junko
mentioned in her candidate article (for SVP) the service program is central
to what APO is all about, and I would like help maintain and improve it.
Next term will be my last term at MIT, so it is my last opportunity
to hold an office. I have really enjoyed having an active role in the chapter
the last two terms as Fellowship Chair Spring 1995 and AVP this past term. I
was also Historian a few terms ago. This past term I PCed the project at the
National Braille Press which was well-attended and a lot of fun.
I am open to suggestions about what kinds of projects brothers are
interested in doing. No one that I know of since I've been a brother has
actually done a thorough survey about what brothers (active, inactive, pledge,
mold maybe) particularly like and dislike in a service project and the service
program as a whole. I think that would be a good idea to do. There certainly
has been a lot of discussion about changing the program to meet both the needs
and wants of the current active membership. I am aware and open to all sug-
gestions for improvement. Personally, I thought the choice of projects this
term has been terrific, and I wish I hadn't been as busy this term as I have
or else I would have gone to most of them.
I will try to make PCing less painful (than it has seemed to be for
some brothers and pledges) by making sure PCs are informed about what they
need to do. Fear is usually the result of lack of knowledge, not the diffi-
culty of the task.
Next term I will be playing softball, and that will take up many of
my weekends in April, but I will not have any labs next term (phew!), will
probably take two course 3 classes and two humanities and maybe a UROP. I
will be at MIT all of IAP.
I don't have time to go into the good and bad aspects of positions
I've held in the past. This term as AVP has been busy for me; I have tried
to put out the minutes in a timely fashion (not always! Sorry!) and haven't
had time to make my office much more creative than it has been in the past.
Please consider me for SVP. See you at elections.

Yilfs,
Karen
