I believe the server sends back a "not authorised" error when you try to
access a protected URL. The client must be written to recognise that
error, at which point most clients I know open up a dialog box that
prompts for name and password, at which point it retrys the URL with
that information. If you client doesn't prompt you for the information,
try a different client program.
