I actually misunderstood this until I read your explanation. I got
that {wIb} was a typo for {yIb}. But I thought that the gas was coming
spreading through the vents, because I suppose the typical scenario
with poison gas is that someone tosses a canister into a building with
a circulatory system, and suddenly gas is coming *out* of all of the
vents. I interpreted {nargh} as "appear" rather than "escape", but in
retrospect had that been the intention it would've been {yIbmeyvo'
narghpu'...} not {-Daq}.

And actually mightn't {yIbmeyDaq ngabpu'...} "... disappeared into the
vents" be better?
