Etymological speculation:
{vatlh} "hundred" + {vI'} "decimal point" ?
Note that {vI'} shows up in several non-number related nouns - {chetvI'} "*chetvi* [spear-throwing device], torpedo tube", {DIvI'} "federation, organization", {ghevI'} "sauce for qagh") - as well as the verb {vI'} "accumulate".
