Not to mention their own planet. We just call ours "the ground" in one
language or another (Earth, Terra, Tellus).

apparently see fit to name their former moon, so who knows?

Yes, I understand it that way too. The following example sentence was given:
"Sol" 'oH tera' jul pong'e'. = The name of the Terran sun is "Sol".
(I believe "Sol" is an English word here, not an English loanword in
Klingon, as tera' or Human, for instance)

So, yeah, it's a generic name.
BUT, maybe the Klingons do not have a special word for their sun and just
call it "sun", just like in English or German. After all, "Sol" just means
"sun" in Latin.
