Someone commented that it was impossible to say "too" something... too much,
too few, too hot, too cold, etc. I believe such a translation is possible with
the law'/puS construction, and a bit of creativity with a subordinate clause
using "to want".
for example:
too much
"That thing costs too much"
Dochvetlh lo'laH law' 'oH jIneHbogh lo'laH puS.
too few
"We have too few phasers."
pu'mey maneHbogh SaH law' bIH mapoQbogh SaH puS.
too hot
"It is too hot in here"
naDev Hat jIHotbogh tuj law' 'oH jIneHbogh tuj puS.
too cold
"It is too cold in here"
naDev Hat jIHotbogh bIr law' 'oH jIneHbogh bIr puS.
That should give folks a general idea of how to do it... I would be interested
in hearing comments on this.
The same person also commented that there was no way to say "should", "ought",
or "must". I generally use -nISlaw' for the first two, and -nIS for the last.
I also have some comments on the law'/puS construction that I will make a bit
later in another posting... it may be something to put on the 'send it to
Okrand?' list.
