I seem to recall asking Okrand about the color terms, and I believe his
take was that it was a linguistic, not physiological thing.  The idea
being that they could distinguish between, say, yellow and blue, they
would just call one of them something along the lines of "light" SuD,
and the other "dark" SuD.

Seems kind of lame to me, but there it is.
