Greetings.
You are on the Enrolled list for Intensive Klingon for IAP. If you know
someone who wants to be in the class but who did not receive this mail,
send me mail. Yes, there is still space in the class.
The course is designed to be an opportunity-to-learn-Klingon, rather than a
sit-down-and-we'll-teach-you-Klingon. There are two instructors, myself
and Kevin Iga. Neither of us know Klingon particularly well -- we're
learning the stuff as we go along. Rather, the course will be designed to
bring people who are interested in learning together.
The long range plan is to give people enough of a foundation that they may
continue their studies by themselves. There is a Klingon mailing list
where people may continue their practice; the 2nd edition of the Dictionary
has just come out. Between the two, people should have sufficient
opportunity to speak Klingon. We will, however, be supplying all the class
materials.
Please note that it is very important that you attend every class session
-- each day will approximately be equal to a week. If you will have to
miss more than two of the classes, please reconsider.
One last point: please don't be overeager and get the dictionary. While we
will only be using material from the dictionary, we are planning on
teaching the course in a different manner from the dictionary. If you
study the dictionary on your own time beforehand, you'll probably only get
confused. (Not to mention that we're planning on getting a mass order of
books at a later date, at a 20-25% discount. Note that there is no
obligation to purchase a dictionary.)
The first class is Monday, January 6 1992 at 6:30 P.M. in Room 2-190.
Please be prompt.
All classes afterwards will be in 1-132 and 1-136.
If you can not make the first class, please send me mail, and we'll make
arrangements as necessary.
Thanks for being interested!
