Complete side-track.  Last night I read a book called "Queen Victoria's
Revenge" by Harry Harrison and in it there's an air stewardess character who
specialises in multi-lingual insults.  I recognised most of them, but one of
the ones she used was "ferengi".  So, 

1: In which (Terran) language is "ferengi" an insult?
2: What does it mean?
3: Did the STTNG people know this when they decided to call their race
   Ferengi?
