=My TV appearence was fairly brief, tho I was on the teasers for the news
=all day and all through the program. Much of it was taken up by shots from
=the movies, sometimes dissolving into me speaking Klingon. There was a
=description of how the language came into existence, a shot of the cover of
=my TKD, and one of the cover of the latest HolQeD, me explaining my term
=for "fish" (bIQ'a' Ha'DIbaH) since there isn't one in Klingon, me reading a
=little of Chapter 2 and translating as a voice-over of a close-up scan of
=the same verse in my RSV... Not bad, though. One unfortunate bit was
=there choice of which of the myriad things I said to use: he re-asked the
="what good is it?" question at one point as "Is it, as Mr. Spock would say,
='logical'?" (I had to correct him, since he'd said Dr. Spock, who's the
=child psychologist). One of my off-the-cuff answers to that, in my usual
=self-deprecating way, was "I do lots of things that aren't logical." I had
=many answers that explained that it *was* logical, but you know which one
=got on the air. Oh well. They did keep the bit where I explained that not
=all Klingonists are Trek-fanatics, just into the language. Kinda cool to
=see the label under my face on TV: Mark Shoulson, Klingon Linguist.
=Linguist at large, that's me. The teasers kept saying "Meet the man who
=translated the Bible into Klingon." The Man, The Myth, The Legend. That's
=me.
