I've spelled it out on the Subject Line this time, just to draw your
attention to it. In the future, as a courtesy to list members who are not
interested in the project, all my posts on this topic (and I encourage others
to follow suit) will begin with KSRP in the Subject Line. This of course is
distinct from the KBTP header.
Anyway, here's the news: The KSRP now has a coordinator! On behalf of the
Klingon Language Institute let me welcome Sarah Ekstrom (aka Walker) to the
position. All individuals interested in translating (ahem, I mean
"restoring") Shakespeare's plays into Klingon should contact her at
joyleaf@char.vnet.net
Keep in mind the following points:
If you have already begun work on a particular play,
you need to tell her that too.
She will be recommending particular annotated texts to use,
to allow the translation to carry the same intended meaning
as the original.
I believe the plan will be to assign specifics acts of a
given play to several different translators, and then swap
the drafts of these acts among them to allow for both
proofing and stylistic consistencies.
This is a project that the KLI has the highest support for as it advances the
study of Klingon on several fronts. Not only does it provide practice in
reading and writing the language, but it is inevitable that once we begin
publishing the plays (and that IS the goal here) local Klingon fan groups
will begin performing them at conventions. This in turn, will bring more
people to the study of Klingon.
I encourage you to participate, whether by actively joining in the project,
or simply by working your way through the portions of translations that will
be posted to this mailing list.
