THe problem really is that "Grammarian" is a general term, and then we 
even have the more confusing term of the "beginners grammarian", who 
surely is a grammarian, otherwise he could not be a "beginners 
grammarian" :-)

The only way to distinguish is capitalization: Grammarian (title) vs. 
grammarian (linguist).
