When using the word {tlhutlh}, the liquid trickling down the throat is the direct object. It make sense to me that you could use the container as an indirect object. I would guess that neither a Klingon nor a Human Klingon speaker would have any trouble understanding what you meant if you used {-vo'}, {-Daq}, {-'e'}, our even {-mo'} in conversation, even if it is not the correct way to say it.
However, since the liquid moves from the cup to the mouth, I'm a supporter of {-vo'} as an acceptable way to say it, and in fact used it in exactly the same way you have suggested in a drinking song I recently translated.

So,
HIvje'vo' mutlhutlh
I drink from the cup
Would that be appropriate use of -vo'? Or is it more appropriately, "I drink away from the cup" (with some implied motion)?
