Oh, and just a note about strange moon math:

=20

People might commonly look up at the Moon and say, =E2=80=9COh, =
that=E2=80=99s a half moon,=E2=80=9D because it=E2=80=99s half =
illuminated. Nope. That=E2=80=99s either a first quarter moon or a third =
quarter moon, because the fraction refers to the life cycle of the =
moon=E2=80=99s illumination, not to the percentage of illumination. So, =
the boundary between waxing quarter and waxing gibbous is First Quarter, =
and the boundary between waning gibbous and waning quarter is Third =
Quarter. There is no =E2=80=9CHalf Moon=E2=80=9D, unless you are =
referring to the Full Moon, which technically is a Half Moon, but nobody =
calls it that, because, well, it=E2=80=99s fully illuminated.

=20

It=E2=80=99s not weirder than having clocks that go from 1 to 12 to =
count the number of hours in a 24 hour day, or having months of a fixed =
number of days each year, but vary among themselves irregularly between =
30 and 31 days, except for February, which is 28 days, except for Leap =
Years, during which it=E2=80=99s 29 days long=E2=80=A6

=20

Most time-related math is weird, especially at warp speed.

After a New Moon (the dark one), when the moon=E2=80=99s phase is =
increasing the size of the illuminated part of the moon each night, it =
is =E2=80=9Cwaxing=E2=80=9D. It continues to wax until a full moon, =
after which it =E2=80=9Cwanes=E2=80=9D. So, the phases are typically =
called:

=20

New Moon

Waxing quarter

Waxing gibbous

Full Moon

Waning gibbous

Waning quarter

New Moon

This falls under =E2=80=9CStuff I learned from an iPad app=E2=80=9D.

I don=E2=80=99t remember if you mentioned it before, but don=E2=80=99t =
forget to add {waQ} and {wen} to the mix:

IMO, HQ 8.3: Another pair of words of this type refers to months: {wen} =
=E2=80=9Cmonths ago=E2=80=9D, {waQ} =E2=80=9Cmonths from now=E2=80=9D. =
Thus, {loSwen} is =E2=80=9Cfour months ago=E2=80=9D and {wa'waQ} is =
=E2=80=9Cnext month=E2=80=9D (one month from now).=20

They=E2=80=99re two of my favorite Okrandian puns/mnemonics.
