I am trying to recompile my kernel and somewhere along the line I did
something that caused the make command to start generating "No rules"
messages. Assuming that I accidently corrupted or deleted something
(because I am new at this and not really sure what I am doing yet) I
decided to re-install the source tree and start over. So I tried to use RPM
to extract the source from my Redhat-5.0 CD and this is what I am getting:
I try to install:
[root@localhost RPMS]# rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm
package kernel-source-2.0.32-2 is already installed
error: kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm can not be installed
I try to update:
[root@localhost RPMS]# rpm -Uvh kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm
package kernel-source-2.0.32-2 is already installed
error: kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm can not be installed
I try to un-install:
[root@localhost RPMS]# rpm -e kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm
package kernel-source-2.0.32-2 is not installed
So I RM'd the old source tree completely and tried it again:
[root@localhost RPMS]# rpm -ivh kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm
package kernel-source-2.0.32-2 is already installed
error: kernel-source-2.0.32-2.i386.rpm can not be installed
This makes no sense to me. Am I doing something wrong here? If its
installed I should be able to un-install it and if its not installed then I
should be able to install it. Any suggestions as to how I can get this to
work again? Does anyone know where RPM stores the list of what is and is
not installed? Maybe I can just edit this list directly?
Thank you all for any help you may have to offer.
Dave
