I have recently picked up a HI-Val 32X Multimedia Kit that was on sale at
CompUSA (I know HI-Val is a cheap brand, but at thirty bucks it couldn't
be beat). The sound card included is a Sountastic sound card. It is an
Asound Gold that uses an Avance Logic chipset (yes, that is definately
Avance, no misspell just so I can avoid confusion here) which claims to
be compatible with a Sound Blaster 16 or Microsoft Windows Sound System.
I highly doubt that it is truly register compatible or anything like
that. I have it running fine under DOS and Win98. It does need a utility
to intialize it under DOS because it is Plug and Pray, but I am pretty
sure that Linux has PnP support built into the kernel with RedHat 5.2,
correct? Anyway, I am wondering if anybody out there has used this card
or knows if it is compatible with Linux. My last sound card was based on
a Yamaha Opl3-sa chipset and I got that working first through the Windows
Sound System Driver and then through the Yamaha driver that was in the
OSS Free distribution. Would the Windows Sound System driver work with
this card? Anyway, all help and suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
