I'm new to Linux but very comfortable with PC's. I'm determined to get
on the Linux wagon cause Microsoft NT is not what's cracked up to be.
First of all, I've been able to configure my sound card and listen to
Audio CD's. So that was very reassuring especially considering the time
spent. I'm still struggling with the modem and network adapter card.
They are both PnP but so is the SB 16 AWE 32 that I successfully
installed. I'm using the Windows 95 Device Manager printout to identify
the Base io's, irq's and dma's.
As for the modem, what could I be overlooking? X Windows is running
just fine and I'm navigating around the system well. Keep this in mind
when I receive an answer.
As for the network adapter card, its a 3COM 3c509b. From the DOS
prompt, I have gone into the card configuration program and disabled the
PnP. This didn't do it. My base io, irq and media type seem to be OK.
When I ping the card IP, it doesn't answer. What to do, what to do?
One last item is RPM. It seems to be a very powerful utility and I'm
beginning to use it to install apps that came with RH 5.1 but one
refuses to install. The message I receive is the following;
unpacking of archive failed on file /opt/wp70/shbin10/wplmd7: 1: No
space left on device.
What's this trying to tell me? Is my swap space to small? It's the
max at 127M and I have 32 MB of RAM. Admitting to this may identify me
as a rookie. Oh well, I'm ready to learn from my mistakes.
To anyone that dares answer this, I want to thank you in advance even
though you help me with one small problem.
  Thanks again,
  Art Ross
