I've had one working in my machine, and my mate has literally just done his (about half an hour ago..) so it can be done. What problems have you had ?

So far, the main problems my mate had were :

1) Clashing IRQ's (very common. Get the 3com disks off the ftp site if you don't already have a copy, and use 3c5x9cfg.exe to setup the card. This will tell you if there's a conflict).

2) Delayed eth0 initialisation during kernel boot :
You need to add an alias for the 3c5???.o module for the card, into /etc/conf.modules, something similar to :

	alias eth0 3c5x9.o

I think the filenam'e correct, but check. This is assuming you haven't recompiled the kernel, and built the 3com modules direct into the kernel, in which case this'll have no effect.

3) Not setting up the card in linux : (unlikely, as it's so easy to do :) )

I can't remember off hand how to do it with linuxconf, but with netcfg it's a sinch, just accept the defaults, and choose an ip.

If it's something else, (ie this doesn't help), send in your the last few lines of /var/log/messages (from the last reboot till the end of the kernel setup), with any sensitive info removed, and some more info with what's wrong.. btw.. as far as i know, the pnp bios on the card must be disabled before it'll work.

(There's a set of 3c5x9 utils in contrib.. you might wanna try them)
