Free is the problem.


ADSM and Legato both have clients for Linux, NT, you name it.....but I would 
actually buy a product called Hummingbird NT NFS Server (~<$200) and then export 
the whole NT tree to your Linux Box.

Mount as something like /mnt/NT1

then tar it and gzip it with normal commands. Works great! I do suggest a 
separate net than then corporate net to do this, though, as it _will_ hog 
bandwidth.


Another idea is to use 'ghost'. This backup is actually immediately bootable and 
is a good cookie-cutter for NT systems (or other systems even).


Tried smbtar once and had a similar experience, so it fits the NT strategy of 
(Not There) yet. ;)
