Check out http://rs.internic.net/

The internic controls the .com domain names. It costs $70 (2 years), and 
then $35 each year after. Search for the domain you want "mydom.com", and if 
it is available you can reserve it.

You will then need someone to map that name to your IP. You used to have to 
provide two DNS servers at the time of reserving it. Not sure anymore. For 
soem reason I seem to remeber this changing when the price dropped.

Does anyone know if you have to have a *real* non profit organization to 
reserve a .org? Or can it be done in good faith if it is not for a 
profitable use?
