I believe that the 16750 UART differs from the 16550A in that
it has a much larger buffer, and capable of perhaps up to 460K
and up, serially.

You might check with Cyclades, Digi and a few others.  They have
high-speed serial boards that work under Linux using either the
16650 or the 16750.  They can probably tell you what driver they
use, or what trick they use to make the regular serial driver
work.
