Try using fdisk on it and quit without saving, just to see what
partition it has on it. For 'Doze it almost always goes to 4 but, you
may have something weird here.

Also, is this obese32 or 16? May make a difference. I'm not familiar
with 32 and can only say you may need to rebuild the kernel to make it
recognize the disk.

Just for a check a blank can be fdisked to say partition 1, ext2 and
formatted. That should show whether or not you are having a problem
with the device.
