I've done stuff like that too. Even rebooting the system didn't flush
the print job. Upon investigation I found a daemon which owned a copy of
ghostscript which was being restarted every time I rebooted the box.
never did figure out what the mechanism was, though.

not even if you power down the printer?

Do you have a Windoze box you can plug it into long enough to enter the
Canon setup utility to reset it to some reasonable values?

Maybe the color cartridge is out of green ink so all that's left is 
the magenta (R + B) ??
