Hi all,
I'm having an interesting, if annoying problem with my new computer
here. I've had this problem in some applications long ago, like emacs,
etc. using remote terminals.
In some X11 applications, namely all KDE applications short of KVT,
Netscape, and StarOffice, my backspace key doesn't work at all. It and
the "Del" key both do a forward delete. Anyone have a clue what would
make these particular applications not respond to Baskspace?
There are a couple things different with my present setup that may
provide a clue. First, I'm running the XFCom_Matrox X server from SuSE
since I have a G200 AGP video card. Second, there used to be a RedHat
5.1 directory on ftp.us.kde.org for, obviously, Red Hat KDE SRPM's. I'm
presently running the "generic" binaries from the "generic" SRPM's I
downloaded. I.e.:
kdesupport-1.0-1
kdeadmin-1.0-1
kdelibs-@VERSION@-1
kdebase-1.0-1
kdegames-1.0-1
kdegraphics-1.0-1
kdemultimedia-1.0-1
kdenetwork-1.0-1
kdeutils-1.0-1
(Yeah, I know Gnome is coming along nicely, but for some reason the old
Motif look and feel holds the most appeal to me :-)
Finally, with the XFCom_Matrox server comes the custom xf86config
program from SuSE. It asked me if I wanted to use xmodmap (I think)
which is a newer way to remap the keyboard. I believe I said "yes"
because I don't know anything about the "older" way to do it (or the
newer, for that matter) and assumed they wouldn't have replaced the
older way had it been adequate.
Thanks.
