Weird ``ls'' behaviour

I've been upgrading RPMs on my system from 5.1 to 5.2.  I'm halfway done,
and I've noticed something strange.  Everytime I try an ``ls -l'', I get a
core dump.  What exactly is causing this? Thanks for any help.
