Bogus /etc/shadow docs?

According to all the various man pages, HOW-TOs, and even a brief look at
the source (of the shadow-utils tarball), the last field of the /etc/shadow
entry should be an unused, "reserved flag". In the source it constantly
gets set to "-1".
But when I look at my /etc/shadow, I see final fields with values of:
-1,0,134529092,134528244, and nothing.

What gives? Do I have a corrupt shadow file, or is there something using
that field that I'm not being told about?
