We are still using a 10mb inhouse backbone (soon upgrading
tho). With several recently purchased PCs that came in
with Intel PCI 10/100 nics, they did not work well on
Windows OSes (didn't try with linux). I dont know why. I
could get them to work if I disconnected the network cable
for a minute or so, then plugged it back in. They just
wouldn't work after a normal boot with network cable
plugged in. Eventually, I substituted a ISA 16 bit nic of
un-remembered manufacture, and it worked fine. I eventually
required my supplier to NOT use Intel PCI 10/100 nics and
give me the PCI 3coms in future.
