List,
I second the rec on the O'Reilly books....great reading!! I just
thought I'd tell you folks about a killer book that I keep around the
house. It's a fairly fundamental book that is fantastic for newcomers
to the Linux/Unix arena, but doubles as a great desk reference for the
seasoned users as well. The info is below:
Instant Unix
ISBN - 1-874416-65-6
Andrew Evans, Neil Mathew, and Richard Stones
You can order it from Amazon....
The layout of the book is probably it's best asset. It starts out
with the Unix file system, then proceeds to permissions, user
management, networking, shell programming, etc. I have found quick
answers to many questions I've had in the past in this book. Don't be
fooled by the title......it's not a learn Unix in 24 hours kinda
thing....it's a well planned and easily read reference. A great
teaching tool!! My $.02
