My experience is similar, except that I print straight to HPJetDirect
equipped printers. Sometimes it will wait 20 minutes. Dig deep enough and
I'll get a message that Linux is waiting for the printer to communicate.
Sigh...
Until I resolve this, I'm stuck with NT and NetWare for print servers. Not
asking for advice yet. Haven't studied the issue sufficiently to deserve
any advice :-) Just coughing up my two cents worth.

I'm not sure that's what Rich is looking for. lprm *removes* a job from the
queue, i.e. it will not get printed, whereas - as far as I understand - Rich
looks for a command to force a job into printing (i.e. the printer sits idle
but the job still doesn't get printed). Unfortunately, I don't have an
answer to that one.
