I'm using the SCSI version of this drive and I'm delighted with the speed
and functioning. It was one of the drives recommended by the folks who make
BRU.

For personal use bru is free. At least, I got a copy with both RH 5.0 and
5.1. BRU backs up all mounted partitions. In my case that means the DOS 7
and win95 partitions, too.

ftape is the interface between floppy tapes and the kernel, it's not back
up software per se.

I understand why you ask the question, but I'd like to answer it with
another: how much are your data worth to you? The single-machine copy of
BRU2000 is not that expensive compared with the time and frustration you
face with lost data. In our case, we run the business on these machines so
I'm getting the server edition of BRU2000 so that I can back up the other
machine, too. The out-of-pocket cost is minimal compared with downtime and
other costs if a drive fails or we lose data another way.

Just something to consider. I'm delighted with bru and the folks who make
and support it. The NovaBack I used with win95 was almost as good; they're
not putting out a linux version.
