Well, there is cron and tar :-)

In crontab:

0 2 * * * /usr/bin/tar cphf /dev/tapedevice /

should do it... :) You may want to check out the options to
tar first though... You will probably want other options...
(I'm also not sure if it will work across partitions/mounts...

Cheap solution, though :)
